Hearing Aids: How They Work & Who May Need Them

Hearing aids are a beneficial and useful device that allows individuals who are experiencing loss to be able to hear again or improve hearing. While losing your hearing can be a scary prospect, hearing aids work to eliminate this issue or at the very least, reduce it. Here is everything you need to know about hearing aids, how they work, and who may need them.

What Are Hearing Aids?

Hearing aids are small electronic device that is placed behind the ear and works to amplify sound so that individuals with difficulty of hearing or hearing loss have better hearing. There are many different types of hearing aids that work to service those with different needs. Schedule a consultation with one of our doctors to see which device can suit your hearing needs best!

How Do They Work?

The main function of hearing aids is to allow the wearer of them to hear better and improve their speech and hearing comprehension. The device itself is made up of three different components, which all work together to amplify noise, speech, and sound. These three components are:

  • A microphone
  • An amplifier
  • A receiver

The hearing aids work when the sound goes in through the receiver, is then converted and amplified, and then sent to the receiver. This helps transmit the sound into a clearer and more understandable sound, which can make hearing much easier.

Who Can Benefit From Hearing Aids?

Hearing aids are beneficial for many different people, especially those with hearing loss. Hearing loss can come from damage in your inner ear to the auditory nerve. Those who have suffered hearing loss from aging, disease, loud noises, injuries, and other situations can benefit from the use of hearing aids.
